WinRAR - Create password to protect files

You want to transfer some important documents in a compressed file to your colleague. However, you are afraid that your compressed file may fall into the wrong

Setting password for compressed files which contain important documents is used by many computer users to ensure their privacy. This tutorial will guide you the way to set up the security mode for compressed files with this software.

Step 1: After installing  WinRAR, open the program by one of following methods
Method 1: Click on the software icon on Desktop (if you agreed to create the shortcut on Desktop in the install process).

Method 2: Click on Start (at the bottom left corner of the screen). In the Search Programs and files section, enter the Winrar keyword, then the results will be displayed right on the screen. Click on the search result for "Winrar" to open the program.
- If your computer uses Win Xp operating system, you can open the program through the Run function which is "c://programfiles/Winrar/Winrar.exe"

Method 3: More simply, choose the folder you want to compress, then right click and move the mouse to Add to Archive.

Step 2: After selecting  Add to Archive, a window will appear so that you set up the archiving mode. At this window, enter name of the compressed file on the box below Archive name or you can use the default file name.
Then, click on the Advanced tab to set password for the compressed file.

At the Advanced tab, click on the Set password box.

After clicking on Set password, a window will appear and require users to fill the password to protect your compressed file.
- Type the password into the box under the Enter Password line.
- Then, retype the password you have just typed above into the box under Reenter Password for Verification. Remember that the retyped password must be the same with the password above.

After entering the password, click OK to return to the window of the Advanced tab. Then, click OK so that the system automatically moves to compress the data again.

After compressing data successfully, your compressed file has been set the protection mode. Whenever you open the compressed file, WinRAR will display a window and require you to enter the password to extract file.
- To extract file, you just need enter the password into the box under the Enter Password line, then click OK. The extracting process will take place normally. If the password is wrong, you will not be able to extract the file.

Setting the password for the compressed files will help prevent other people from intruding, changing and causing Virus to your compressed files. Moreover, with this mode, important documents will not fall into the wrong hands.
